Think Twice Before Sending

TobaniNataiella

Think Twice Before Sending.

Powerful positive and negative weapons are our words.

Should be thought over before being aired and shared.

Some thought should be given to the inevitable reaction.

They should be appropriate to each different situation.

They have the power to brighten and lift someone’s day.

Equally they have the power to take all their hopes away.

They can make someone feel like dancing on the ceiling.

They also can drive someone closer to the suicide feeling.

We have all read the poetic words on this wonderful site.

Then have a chance to comment, do or do we not like.

We should embrace the context of what you’ve seen.

Then read through your comment before clicking send.

If the poem clearly indicates they want to end their life.

The appropriate comment surely has to be care and kind.

Yet there are those who want to drive the knife in further.

Nobody's feelings but their own do they ever consider.

Poems are people's real thoughts and feelings laid bare.

And as such should be respected and handled with care.

It's fine to disagree and offer some constructive advice.

Please before sending unhelpful comments, think twice.

We have all read Poetry that are clearly a call out for help.

In the past (a few times) I have been in that position myself.

If you cannot offer constructive advice, be helpful or nice.

Just read the poem, don’t send, just move quietly on bye.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this in relation to a couple of things i have read in the last couple of months, as we all do, i read a lot of poetry on this wonderful site and also the comments people make, and 99.9% of those comments are positive or constructive. I came across 2 comments ( not on my page), on 2 other poets pages comments that i thought were nasty and would clearly not have contributed to the well being of the recipient, giving that there writings clearly indicated they were struggling. So i thought i would write this, as Arqios says words do not rewind.

Yes, and be careful in sending off for things online, etc, which may be scams.

A most poignant write with a message we all should hear. If you enjoy poetry you must encourage the poet. True poetry in a landscape of technology is dying and needs careful nurturance to thrive. Be kind is the message and point is well taken

Wow! Amen! The poem is spot on! I, too, have seen and witnessed that. Again, as your note puts it, 99.9% of the comments on this site are encouraging and supportive. This is truly one of THE most supportive communities I am privileged to be a part of. Still, even 0.1% shitty-ness is 0.1% to much, imho! You are right to craft this poem and call it out. And yes, arqios' words...and now yours...very much ring true! Well done, friend! 🌹👏
