The Day I became My Mother.

David Wakeling

It was my 40th birthday and I was sitting in a bus stop,
I was on my way to Katoomba to my sister’s place.
The reason I was leaving home was because
I caught Andrew my husband having an affair.
I’m sure he had affairs before but I didn’t catch him in the act.
This time he had his girlfriend over to our place.
I came home early and caught the two of them together.
The odd thing was all I could hear was my Mother.
Her voice was resonating in my head.

“Noelene if I’ve told you once I’ve told you a thousand times,
You have to clean up you own mess.
You can’t expect others to help.
You need to loss weight sweetie.
You’ll never find a man
if you are over-weight.
Try that Pritikin Diet they reckon that’s good.
You are too pickie that’s your problem.
No man is perfect. You just have to take what Life offers you.”

The bus came but I didn’t get on.
I went back and told Andrew if he promised to
stop having affairs we could give it another go.
Maybe we just needed to try a little harder.
We could go on that trip to Egypt we always planned.
Maybe rekindle the romance.
I told him, sometimes you have to take what Life offers you.

How words of parents are clearly remembered, even thou at the time they probably thought no one was listen. An underlying message of we have to try to make the most off what we have. Enjoyed the read.

Both carefully concealed and in your face this poem presents the two sides of the issue. How tolerant is too tolerant and how intolerant is too intolerant where do we draw the line? A great thought provoking write.

Yes it is so easy to reject. But forgiveness can work as well. Thanks for commenting

Wow! Now there’s a resolution afoot just waiting to be found. Kind of curious about the next “chapter-episode-sequel” to this.

Yes forgiveness can be risky business. Time will tell. Thanks for commenting
