Mummy`s Love (Hidden in Anger)

TobaniNataiella

Mummy’s Love. (Hidden in Anger).

I can feel my mummy's love I know it’s in there somewhere.

Hands rein down on me, I know somewhere inside she cares.

I can feel my mummy's love even when it is hidden in despair.

I know she has a lot of love, but the anger is always there.

I can feel my mummy's love as she says bad insulting words.

I am sure the love is hidden in the abuse that I have just heard.

I can feel my mummy's love as again she inflicts more pain.

I can feel the warmth of her hand as she hits me once again.

I can feel my mummy's love when I go to bed at night in tears.

I know her love is there somewhere inside all her raging fears.

I can feel my mummy's love as she gives me a goodnight kiss.

Why can't mummy show me all her love, that's the only thing i wish.

  • Comment from author about the poem: In my career i worked with children and young people from a range of abusive backgrounds and regardless of what their parents did to them, a lot of them said they still loved their parents and believed their parents still loved them. I wrote this a few years ago in relation to them

A sad truth of pain and suffering, as well as the innocence of an abused child. Such a heartwrenching poem which deserves to be heard by everyone. It really moved me.

Deeply psychological and analogous to people that hurt themselves. In our own pain we often hurt what is closest too us. I could feel this poem and the pain and need for love expressed in it. Very nicely done

Dear Tobani, all those poor children who can’t feel a mother’s love, only her anger. Breaks my heart and your author comment moreso. Beautifully penned stanzas.

I once consulted a poet who had developed a nervous breakdown as a result of being abused by his father, and he was a man with a wonderfully wide-ranging eye for seeing things. I wonder if that person is doing well now.

Hopefully he is, and many have suffered the same issues, some can make it and some cannot. thank you for your feedback, much appreciated as always.

True. They are both victims, but love covers a multitude of sin.

              • TobaniNataiella

I hardly see what some adults do to children, how the adults are the victims. Mt parents were not victims when they beat the crap out of me and my sister, they were just nasty human beings. Some of the things i have seen with other children there is no excuse in the world for, and it happens even today in all walks of life, Faiths, Religions, cultures, society`s and there can never be a justification for it.

I suppose there is pure evil, to the rest of us, just scars.

                • arqios

Mum’s tend to be more articulate than dads in general. And that saying about “sticks and stones…” is quite an inventive lie. We do love them still, but the wounds and scars do remain and we realise this as history repeats itself: “hurt people hurt people!” Very moving poem. 🙏🏻👍🏻🕊

A profoundly sad and horrific reality. Love often blinds us to the horrors we experience. We know what we are experiencing is wrong, yet we justify it to make it make sense. But there is simply no justifying abuse. Thank you for expressing this and giving a voice to the voiceless, my dear friend. This poem comes from a place of deep empathy. It has my heart. ❤️

Aww that broke my heart... I don't know if it's the way you said it, or the fact that it's so painfully true. Beautiful job, and important poem

                              Your poem really is
                              a sad reminder of
                              the child abuse a
                              sad happening that
                              exists still these days.. 😢
                              Eloquently penned my friend!🙏
