Eternal blight

LP2187

I’m living bathed in all this rage

Like I want to kill everyone

I’m trapped in a rusty, burned cage

People are aware of what I’ve done

But I haven’t done anything, not yet

I’m just murderous all the time

So why lock me up? I think I’m a threat

Have I crossed the line?

A pounding in my ears

As blood rushes to my head

After all these years

Why am I still not dead?

Loud and vivid hatred

Shining through my cold eyes

As I stare at all the blood

Heeding to echoes of cries

So this is why I’m here

Around me murder was forever near

As I curse the virtuous with death

Until they have breathed their final breath

With my malevolent eyes and dirty face

Being their only last sight

And with infinite sinister grace

I sentence them to eternal blight

Why am I alive? Of course God doesn't answer, so I have no choice but to explore on my own. This is my favorite poem that makes me think about many things.

Thank you so much. I agree, I do have to do things without asking for help from above as I know there won't be any answer.

I sense a touch of anger and questioning in this piece, not just about why am i but who am i, enjoyed the read.

        Thank you very much

The poem's exploration of the character's malevolent thoughts and the curse they place on the virtuous adds a layer of complexity to their identity. It effectively conveys the torment and isolation of a character struggling with their own darkness; made me wonder how dissimilar or paralleled are the thoughts of the mass shooters that have proliferated in the last century.

Thanks for your thoughts, a character's darkness is indeed complex.

            Hatred purifies !
            Hatred sanctifies !

Very true! We all need hatred sometimes. (Or maybe not... that's just me)

I really really like the imagery in this poem...the rusted and burnt cage shows what they've done to us, they don't trust us even when they hold us captive

              • LP2187

Yeah, I agree, there is always too much mistrust. thanks!

                  always!
