A figure, stern and cold,
receives a laurel leaf with surprise.
No introduction, no warmth exchanged
. . . just the reality of presence
the edge of diffidence . . .
The leaf, tender and green
rests lightly in their hand
a symbol of honour, unspoken worth.
In its quiet embrace,
a connection begins to form;
bridging the divide of understanding.
The caustic words, the guarded heart,
begin to soften in the face of one gesture.
The laurel invites a new beginning,
a chance to be seen, to be known
beyond the barriers of silence.

Here's 'hostile advice', said by a clergyman, of all people - 'I'm a man of peace, and if anyone doesn't agree with me, I'll punch them on the nose'. Doh!
Or a fictitious scene, hopefully - A guy said 'hello' to a nasty guy. He replied 'What do you mean hello? What do you want? I'll give you a good punch for speaking to me'. A pleasant chap - not!
Yay! First comment to be had today! And quite rightly thy comment improveth mine mind ππ€£ Thanks O ππ»ποΈ shall play that hymn, "let peace there be peace on earth and let it begin with me...."
Well written this cryptic poem in its depth speaks to me of the power of symbols and actions beyond words. Forgiveness is not a word but an action. Honor not a word but an action. So well set in this metaphoric piece is the notion that words are not needed there is a poetry in the doing, the act itself.
That is so correct! The astuteness of your observations and insight never cease to astound ππ»πππ»
The Hand of peace, lovely piece of writing highlighting that even a simple gesture can have some a dramatic effect, enjoyed the read.
More effect for less effort; what more could be asked! Thanks kindly ππ»πππ»
You are very welcome
Indeed, we live in a world of extending swords instead of laurels. This is a great call to action, which is what this poem is about. The offering of peace and forgiveness...not just the mere wish of having it. Well done, my friend! πΉπ
Thanks Tristan, that is exactly where itβs at. Thanks for peeling this onion π§ ππ»πππ»
