Early Risers

Matthew R. Callies

Early risers feel at ease
But are understated for what they achieve.
Orion says literally nothing
While coffee pots underclaim by doing the gurgly thing.
The owl tells the tale of the murders he committed.
His victims of the wild were permanently omitted.
The goose on the bar rose briefly to a point
Of an inaudible debate he happened to join.
Early risers have their own
Sense of life we should leave alone.
