Negative Test

Matthew R. Callies

I sought to know my patience’s worth,
A measure of my earthly birth.
A test was given, cold and clear,
To gauge my fortitude, my fear.

The results arrived, a stark surprise,
A negative, a sad demise.
My patience, it seems, was not there,
A void where calm should reside, I swear.

No longer patient, I’ll confess,
A storm of anger, restlessness.
But in this knowledge, I may find,
A path to peace, a calmer mind.
