choice?

NinjaGirl

I hated it when they said

"happiness is a choice"

it didn't feel like it, not for me

it was impossible to be happy

I tried and tried but my mind

wouldn't let me at all

I resented people who told me

this, "happiness is a choice"

no it isn't, I dare say now

it is not always a choice

but what i've learned now

is happiness is not a choice

but choosing to try to heal

and to try and get better, happier

that is a choice.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I resented the girl who told me this, long summer camps ago, "I firmly believe that happiness is a choice," and everyone praised her so. Later when I had a panic attack, flashback, she did try to comfort me. But I knew she wouldn't understand, happiness was not a choice. She thought I was homesick, I couldn't tell the truth.

Happiness needs working for. I find it in the smallest of things. All those little things can then add up. All the best.

      True true, compounding interest perhaps!

YES!!!! Let's bury these awful clichés one-by-one...alive! LOL! For real. This is 💯 truth, my wise friend! 🌹👏

I'm ok with doing a mass grave, one by one sounds like a lot of work and they don't deserve that level of respect... XD

A matter of definitions, happieness may not be an immediate choice but as you said healing and future happieness may be.

It’s like part of us has been stolen away and there doesn’t seem a way to retrieve it.
