fervor
noun
to cut deep into the skin,
to wash away my thoughts,
to the hands that touched the flesh,
to scratch till blood runs fresh
fervor, fervor, fervor
to the red lines that are my art,
to the pieces i create in the dark, to show off to the light
to the urges i don't try to fight,
to the promises i made with the chance i still might.
fervor, fervor, fervor
to my arms that feel raw and scratchy,
burning, churning, snaggy
to me i am a canvas,
my paintings alluring, gaining glances.
but no one does nothing, because attention is what im hunting
fervor, fervor, fervor
to when it starts late at night,
distant, fleeting. could they? would they? may they? might?
to when i grasp the handle tight,
should they? can they? will they? try?
to when they're noticeable, red and bright.
lie to? cry to? hurt at? bite?
to when fervor turns to physical fright
attention, for attention, im still not alright

- Comment from author about the poem: self harm for attention is still indication that the person inflicting harm on themselves is ill, for attention or not, they still need help and shouldn't be brushed off.
