It Never Happened

Paul Gerard Reed

 People speak;

And then the air is still,

Still forevermore,

Moments are strung together

But then cast away

On the oceans of time;

We once spoke,

With boldness and youth

With the courage of tomorrow

Still in sight,

When everything

Was going to be all right.

I can still hear your voice

Drifting back to me,

The breaths breathed

The looks given,

A touch here and there,

But fleeting;

And now none of this exists

It never happened
