My Destiny

Vasile Serban

The favor you bestowed upon me by bringing me into this world
Has long since transformed into torment and sighs.
I have always sought to find a meaning in life,
But too wounded by the world, I have lost myself forever.

Too immersed in my human nature,
I gathered wealth from all that I encountered,
And then, swollen with pride from what I achieved,
I wandered aimlessly, losing my way.

For a time, I stalked my treasure,
A vast sea of trifles and nothingness.
And bored and weary from waiting,
I decided from today not to gather anything.

I have killed my destiny out of fear of death
When I decided not to suffer anymore.
I severed the ties of all that was human in me,
And quieter than ever, I slipped into another world.
