Friendly Enemy

Brian Otucho

Once upon a time in the woods

The trees grew together as one,

Endured the rainfall and harsh winds

In unity, vict'ry they won.

Then came the uninvited guest

The tress thought he was one of them

Thought he was a friend amongst

Cos he was made of wood, like them.

The axe joined this big family

Cos the axe was made out of wood

When found that he was no ally

The forest had been diminished.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I've learnt to be careful of enemies who come in guise of a friend. They are far more dangerous than the enemy you know is your enemy.
