Dirty Shirt

Dan Williams

When did this wind start, strong enough to blow away inhibitions

left farther behind with every step you take.

Where was this betrayal seeded?

Had to be close enough to inflict that hurt,

make no mistake about that.

Though in many ways too many folks, confident enough in their denial

of those denials; yet some above may have survived;

Too few remained to describe us

with the dirt of this fiction still between our toes,

or tell the ones with backs bent from lifting too much weight,

or tell them why the blue collar is not the dirtiest part of the shirt.

We fell down too repeatedly and premature

asking can you realize happiness without first experiencing hurt?

When did this wind start?

I found this an interesting piece, i feel asking more than one question, enjoyed the read

Deeply philisophical this poem poses several questions almost of a retorical nature. The wind to me seems to be the blowing of thoughts through one's mind. Many metaphors here several great lines. This poem keeps the mind going reading after reading and I have read it three times. Very well worded and constructed it grows from a breeze to a gale.

Random musings often make a whole heap of sense .. Neville

A truly engaging ode to individuals who have faced betrayal and hardship, carrying the metaphorical dirt of their experiences with them.🙏🏻👍🏻🕊

It's random, yet cohesive. I love the metaphor, my friend. It is melancholic, trying to make sense of the ongoing struggle as I read it. Well done. 🌹👏
