One More Breath

One More Breath

Oh, Death, you cold queen of darkest dark and deepest deep,

Withdraw your iron hand from me, let me wake from my sleep!

Hear my plea, grant me just one more breath to take,

One more glimpse of sparkling moon, one more daybreak!

Let the sunlight greet me with one more kiss,

Just one more moment, one final bliss!

Even though my life is slowly slipping, you have no grace,

Still grant me one more smile, one more warm embrace!

In my final moments I am begging, you relentless foe,

You merciless enemy, for one more breath before I go!

What’s your hurry, please consider, do delay,

Just one more breath before you steal my life away!

Ah the tenacious hold on life so nicely expressed in this marvelous poem. Shades of Dylan Thomas in this poem. "Do not go softly into that good night" So nicely said.

Well done, my friend. Death is forever the muse. Thoroughly enjoyed this. 🌹
