By My Quiet Pond

JD Boye

By my quiet pond, I sit,
Looking at the moon and wondering if she sees it too.
Her laughter once curled like smoke
around the tender leaves of my soul.
But now it drifts elsewhere
Leaving just the echo in my mind.

I loved her in the way
the sky loves the restless geese,
knowing their wings will always
find another horizon.
Still, I held her dreams
as if they were my own—
With hopes to be the one to grant them.

But her heart, a compass spinning,
never pointed to me.
It longed for a secret other,
a shadow I could never follow.
And so we lingered,
two mismatched hearts,
"with reasons which reason knows not of",
aching in the silence of what we weren’t.

Oh, the regret—
not of loving,
but of not being her choice.
Still, I sit with the echoes of her voice,
and somewhere, the moonlight glistens on the water,
the only companion to my yearning.

I feel a sense of wanted more from someone and that someone had their mind and thoughts else where, nicely written

What a great write. The imagery was spectacular and the emotion was raw and real. I enjoyed it so much. Thank you for taking me on the journey.
