Hatred Is
Hatred is a shadow that waits,
patiently in the corner of your mind,
slowly curling into a fist.
Hatred is a hunger that doesn't stop,
gnawing at the edges of your thoughts,
never asking for permission.
Hatred is a fire that burns without light,
a quiet heat in the spaces between words,
choking the air with its need.
Hatred is a storm in the chest,
rising like an ocean in your throat,
crashing against reason.
Hatred is a wall you build inside,
stone by stone, each one a memory,
until nothing else can get through.
Hatred is a mirror that cracks,
fracturing your reflection until you are
unrecognizable in its shards.
Hatred is a silence that follows,
lingering in the space after the shout,
where nothing is ever said again.
Hatred is a shadow that waits,
patiently in the corners of your mind,
slowly curling into a fist.
Hatred is a wound that won’t heal,
left open like a scar on your soul,
reminding you of what was lost.
Hatred is a weight you carry,
slowly breaking your spine,
until you can no longer stand
Hatred is a hunger that doesn't stop,
gnawing at the edges of your thoughts,
never asking for permission.
Hatred is the end of everything,
and the beginning of nothing.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem was inspired by all that is going on in our world today. With all the controversy towards our president, people being shipped away, poverty, and so much segregation in our current world.
