Zero Sum

“Zero Sum”

(2/12/2025 Tom Entrican)

There am I the day I was born with nothing to my name

Well here I am at sixty eight, and nothing’s really changed

So this is all there is to grasp, all the emptiness in me

Where most would not dare to cast, even hope seems to flee

I am often reminded of the path that I once roamed

All the heartache that I caused is spelled out until I moan

I fought battles on both sides, thank the Lord that I chose right

But it doesn’t change what I have I done, ask forgiveness every night

While God may forgive me, there are some who just cannot

It is sad, for I love them all, but I will soon be forgotten

I am not bitter for my past, though the memory still burns

And I would do it all again, but we only get one turn

Still I know my treasures await me, as for this world I want none

I will leave the very way I came, simply a zero sum

A poem about what we are and leave behind. In the end as time passes we are all a zero sum. But as a ripple in a pond maybe an unseen impact on others will make a difference. A lovely reflective write that goes deeper than the surface. Loved it

We will pass away as we came in to this world as nothing, but are we leaving behind. I found this a well written reflective poem and enjoyed the read
