Watching a smirk
Watching distanced from where I am suppose to be,
smirking at a past memory that this has let me see.
Being where I was assigned to sit would block my view,
wouldn't have brought back a smirk for you my you.
Watching the laughing and hearing the smiling cheeks,
the enjoyment they all have as the speaker speaks.
Reminding me of the fun you had with us and with me,
today this has brought you back to me pleasantly.
There was chatter that some memories are good,
until now their words I've read were misunderstood.
Thinking the reflections that dampened were right,
I now know that the good ones do have some light.
Watching the speaker joke and funnily say to say,
speaking of the artwork hung for our display.
Each word smirks its way into my thoughts thought,
I'm so glad I never made it to my assigned spot.

They sure do, don’t they? A painful memory or a pleasant smirk… Catching us at the spot we happen to be. Great writing. Thanks for sharing!
How sweet that you are so observant, and how wonderful that you have not lost the ability to be pleasantly surprised by someone's unexpected appearance.
Sad nostalgia and well written in this poem of loss and having to be in the right spot to see, remember and feel the past. Lovely
A lovely write of reflection and being surprised by a memory you thought you had forgotten, enjoyed the read
