From whom and from another, do we believe or feel madness, when within each of us, better or worse, there exists another, a soul dancing in its sadness.
A world of comparisons, a dance of judgment and doubt, but in the soul, there is no more, just one, without any clout.
For none is more or less, only human, as we are, carrying all we hold within, near and far.
Who can say where sanity begins, or where madness truly ends in its spins.
For in every heart, a universe resides, with light and shadow, better and worse, it hides.
Yet all are worthy of understanding’s grace, for in our complexity, we find our place.
In each of us, there lives an untold story, a labyrinth of emotions, a quiet glory.
Madness and sanity, two faces of one soul, seeking, losing, never in control.
In the contradiction of what we are, echoing the belief that we’re both near and far.
An internal struggle, a soul unclear, but always a life that stands, sincere.
There’s no clear answer, no defined line, for in every gaze, essence will unwind.
Humanity, boundless and uncertain, weaves destinies that are never certain, and while we seek through lights and shade, our being faces truth, unafraid.
Who can judge without looking deep, without seeing that within, we all keep a world of our own, a reflection of all, that rises and falls, in both big and small.
Though many may label us, mark us with tags, we are all human, shedding our flags, each deserving to be seen, in the truth that connects us, pure and clean.

- Comment from author about the poem: Reflection on Human Madness and Sanity invites us to question how we understand and label human complexity. Madness and sanity are not fixed opposites, but aspects that coexist within us. This poem reminds us that we all carry our own stories, emotions, and contradictions, and true understanding can only arise when we let go of quick judgments and embrace our shared humanity. It calls us to look beyond the surface and understand the internal struggles that make us who we are: human, with our light and our shadows. This poem was born from reflecting on how easily we judge others based on our limited vision. Madness and sanity, far from being fixed opposites, are states we all live through, in different forms and at different moments. I was inspired by the idea that, no matter how different we may seem, we all share a common need for understanding and acceptance, and it is this shared humanity that truly connects us.

What a wonderful topic too little explored in poetry except tangentially. In forty years of working with mental issues I have reached the same conclusion that categories do little justice and our own biases and lack of information lead to wrong conclusions. Understanding is key and situations and history make us what we are. A most lovely and poignant write
Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. It means a lot coming from someone with your experience. I truly believe that understanding, rather than rigid categories, is what allows us to see the full complexity of the human experience. Your insight reaffirms that poetry can be a bridge to deeper awareness, and I’m grateful that this piece resonated with you.
