LEAVES

nephilim56

When tears pay homage
In duty to night
Thoughts that return
Pain shining bright
No diety or gods
No light in the eyes
The sublime midnight
Gently arrives.

Unwritten pathways
Gently unfurl
To greet forlorn moonlight
Autumn returns.
Leaves they prepare
Without haste or need
To abandon their grip
Upon the trees.

In flight of elegance
Twirling on by
Down to the ground
Free of goodbyes
To unwritten pathways
To gently unfurl
To greet forlorn moonlight
Autumn returns.

There is a vague sadness in the poem. We notice the words "forlorn moonlight" appearing twice. The words
"tears" and "pain" add to the sadness. The return of autumn itself signals a dwindling down of activities, winding down for winter. Autumn gently prepares leaves to fall off, for their work is done. Next spring will bring a new life to the tree. Soman Ragavan.

A beautiful image in and of itself free of the metaphor. And such is life and the seasons. The feeling left is gently sad but with a sense of acceptance that this is nature's way. There is a peacefulness to the flow of the poem and it evokes a calm. Very nicely done
