Respect Jesus But Don't Forget God

Shaunmatthewcpoetry

The Bible says don't make idols, what's the cross?
Alpha and Omega is the end of level big boss.
Respect Jesus but don't forget God,
I don't roll up one pant leg like James Todd.
Stayed away from all the churches,
How many peedo priests sit on perches.
Waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting child,
The Vatican looks kinda dark and pretty wild.
Will Christ return or was his job here finished?
Faced with the Lord's testing until I'm diminished.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I made this poem after a conversation I had with someone on Twitter, their theory is that many people are worshipping Jesus and the cross as idols when we should be worshipping God and idol worship is frowned upon in the Bible. I see Jesus and God as one and the same entity but I know that not everyone thinks in this manner and of course we shouldn't forget Jesus's sacrifice. I just thought it would be interesting to write about and explain the thought process.

It's idolatry to worship the cross itself, I think. There's a hymn with a sickly line in it, of 'O sweet cross, O sweet tree' and it's kissed in, e.g. some Good Friday Services.
God (He, including She elements) is a Trinity, I say, though we can't fully humanly understand another line of a hymn: 'God is Three and God is One; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit'

Thank you for sharing that line with me pal, I posted this on another poetry site and someone got really angry about it, I don't make poems to trigger people just to test boundaries and push people to question and think.

I can just about accept another line of a hymn 'O thou most sweet and gentle death'. It may be for someone with a terminal illness, but it's 'the last enemy that shall be destroyed'.
In one church - true - someone spent ages crossing themselves before the service. I thought 'you'll be worn out before the service has even started!' A strange chap - nervy, creepy, caught up in religious habit and overing it maybe.

Very interesting, I don't think we should forget what Jesus did but be more aware about what we do, I would never go in a confessional box to tell someone my sins, they are told to God and his angels.

Contradictions in everything. Religion itself a contradiction as is God. Then what more should we expect we are the greatest contradiction. Good write
