It's The Way It Is

DesertWords

So, I said to my friend:
"Is this the end?  Did the Fat Lady sing last night?"
And he said:
To be brutally fair, I don't care.
My job's on the line; I've got kids to feed;
I don't have time or the urgent need
to ponder the future of climate control,
or consider the latest political polls.
My parents need care that I can't buy,
and if you insist I can tell you why
this world is upside down.

It's guys like me who've been pushed aside.
I've got feelings.  I've got pride.
The world is changing far too fast,
and I'm the guy who's going to be last.
I don't understand the speed of change;
it's not within my "intellectual" range.
I work twelve hours everyday
and then I hear the news guy say:
The job market's booming; inflation's down;
the stock market's up; we're on solid ground.
Well, I used to believe in the American dream
but the deck is stacked; it's a political scheme.
Tonight we'll have soup I've watered down;
the Food Bank is closed or I'd go around
and ask for some extras:  some bread and beans.
I can't remember the last time we ate something green.

The guy in the White House?  Yeah, I put him there.
I don't really know what's right or fair.
Maybe in the end, it'll all be the same.
He got my vote because he knows my name.

So I don't have time to enjoy success.
There's no way out of this stinking mess.
But I won't give up; I'll continue to try.
In the meantime, fella, here's a stick in your eye.

    Words and poetry of the way I’m feeling and living… not even a citizen over there, but from a highly tariffed ally, and so-called friend. (sigh) Liked and Faved🙏🏻🕊

    This is such a real feel in this poem. It is raw and speaks for the common man. Furthermore the rhyme is good and the meter and flow are great. It is currently poignant and for all that a fave

    A raw and very honest write which will resonate with a lot of people, nicely expressed and written
