he says love
is a scale,
a delicate balance—
so, i tilt it.
he says sacrifice
is the cost,
a necessary payment—
so, i pay it.
he says happiness
is a choice,
a conscious decision—
so, i fake it.
but never once
does he say
what love takes
from the giver.
never once.
