Dirty hits on the ice so cold
Consequences severe, a story to be told
Injuries inflicted, pain and fear
A player's career, a future unclear
Penalties given, fines to pay
Suspensions handed down, games astray
Reputation tarnished, a label stuck
A dirty player, forever looked
Teams suffer too, a loss so great
Key players injured, a championship fate
Disciplinary action, a price to pay
A team's success, fades away
The NHL takes action, rules to abide
Player safety first, a change to provide
Concussion protocol, education too
A safer game, for me and you
But memories linger, of hits so bold
A player's health, a story untold
The hurt may fade, but never forgotten
A dirty hit, a lesson unspoken

I hear the message in this poem loud and clear. Controversial as in other sports, where is the line drawn? Is the sport for the viewer or the athlete? Love that this poem brings up a debatable subject without giving an answer. Very nicely done
