We’re walking on a long road
With no clue where it goes
I can’t recognize those beside me
I only know of the pain behind me
The path ahead is foggy and vague
I cannot recall a word you said
The stomping of feet
And the gnashing of teeth.
People die all the time, nothing new
It’s never real until it happens to you
Bodies only left to waste away
Corpses left out to rot and decay
The snapping of bones are like that of a camera
I would stop to smile, but I lack the stamina
If only I had waited and hadn’t boast
We wouldn’t be here as a pair of ghosts
My lips are chapped, and my tongue is dry
I cannot speak but can only sigh
As the weight of my agony crushes me
And I think with a bit more clarity
I think back to when things were easy
When we were young and completely carefree
To the days where time held us tight
And our worries were a little light
Now I’m dragged back to reality
And harsh affliction is all I see
As we drag our feet on the graveled path
I only wish that we could have last
