My Crip, Spastic The Uromastyx

Ajon4wheels

Your name is tattooed across my broken heart
Everyday I wake up and I think about how much you made me giggle
You were my best friend ever, I loved you so much from the start
But you were a lizard, we had an untouchable bond until you turned into a true pickle

I had to keep an eye on you all the time, when you were on your back
You needed me to turn you over and over again
But our relationship grew stronger and I needed my feelings unpacked.
I knew that I wanted you as nobody did not, as they did send you back because they caused you real pain

The owner of the shop gave you free, as they were not even sure you could survive
Oh baby boy, you were friendly but feisty, I was lucky enough to have you for over a decade of fun.
I gave you anything and the best of everything, to help you stay healthy and thrive
Mealworms and locusts were your favourite things and you had to catch them and run

I knocked on your vivarium, you would stomp out of your log
Just the way you always looked at me like you loved me
But you were seriously deformed and crippled, as you had a humped back and your legs looked like a frog
When you came out of your vivarium for a bath, you were supervised. So you would not flip over or fall asleep! I would not let you drown yourself. I would wrap you up with a towel and you could easily fall asleep in my arms and I would let you be

And then I would let him roam free and lick everything around my house.
You could climb up stairs and I would watch him navigate the stairs in my amazement
Even though he was crippled, he would still scurry quickly like a little mouse
By his own knowledge, he could go back to his warm environment

Every second of the day I miss him so much and I miss him kissing him
Over a decade I can never be forgotten, my heart is forever broken
To find any bond with my lovely Crip, another lizard is so slim
I have got his name; Crip tattooed across my heart, without him I am always choking.

The bonds we make with those we love and we do not choose whom we love our heart does. A lovely write I too have had special bods with animals from dogs to octopus and this poem reminds me of an Iguana we had that we let go in our back yard and lived there for years tormenting the dog and eating the hibiscus flowers until a hurricane came and he moved on. A fun read

An entertaining read with a serious message, our heart chooses to and what to live, then its our responsibility to nurture and look after that love, enjoyed the read
