Children

Emperor

All the memories living

Wanted to live more

The rooms still remain

Mattresses on the floor

Troubled by the thought

Their sneak might get caught

The children stayed up late

They laughed and they fought

Through the running time

That just seems to slip away

One can only remember

What happened yesterday

Time is truly guilty

Of the murder and the theft

Men and women returned

But not the children that left

I loved this poem and its focus on the genocide of childhood. Herod's mandate to kill all the children is a metaphor for time. A most tragic and sad poem of the loss of innocence. A fave

A well written write around the sadness of the loss of innocence and childhood, nicely expressed
