Holding her near

Pukur

HOLDING HER NEAR

I read her words today,
Sneakily and silently.
She would not let me see,
The reason of her melancholy.

I can see the emotion in her eyes,
I can see the tears behind her smiles,
But God knows why, I cannot
Find the reason of her onslaught.

She is slipping in her white pages,
I check her pulse fluttering in cages,
So silently, I picked her book,
I found, what she did not let me look.

I read the words, she wrote so painfully,
I saw the beauty latent in her melancholy,
I saw her bleeding heart, broken and tired,
I stitched it up with words, with threads that wired.

Lost and empty, she pretends to be,
I can see her sleeping blissfully,
She is afraid to let anyone in,
How can I prove that I am not him.

Silently every night, I read her poems,
Softly every night, I smooth her hair,
Calmly every night, I press my cheek against her heart,
I let it beat, I let it live.

But when she wakes in the morning,
Nonchalantly escaping my presence,
I grab her wrist softly and calmly,
I pull her into my chest swiftly and silently.

I nuzzle her neck so lovingly,
That she falls apart in my arms.
I see her scars, I see her pain,
I bandage her heart and heal the pain.

She thinks she is broken, I let her believe
That for a second, she was wounded, not broken,
But with time and patience,
I heal her scars, I heal her pain.

Tonight as I enter our loving home,
Which she decorated from the floor to dome,
I let myself believe while watching her intently,
She is happy, after all this time, she is.

I see the emotions in her eyes,
I see the joy behind her smiles,
And God knows why I am here,
Holding the precious one so near.
