Western Skies

cassiopeiaxneptune

There comes a moment—
when the life you imagined
and the life you are living
no longer resemble each other.

You keep moving forward,
but something unseen tethers you
to a past you swore you left behind.

You convince yourself
it was always meant to be seamless—
as if fate and certainty
were ever the same thing.

At first,
you believed it would be untouchable...
a mirage, only revealing itself
to those who dared to look closer.

But then—
it settles into something familiar—
a quiet rhythm,
a voice you've always known.

And yet...
it still catches you off guard.

Some days, you drift apart.
Other days, you fall back in sync.

And in fleeting moments,
beneath the glow of a setting sun—
you forget what it was
you spent so long waiting for.

Very well written and thought provoking requiring careful reading that takes the reader into the same mindset. None of us are exactly where we expected to be and this incongruity can inspire confusion if not despair. (as if fate and certainty were ever the same thing) a clever line that provokes careful thought. This poem was very nicely penned

thank you so much for your kind words!! and yes, as humans, we often compare between our expectations and our realities (expectation vs. reality), which is what initially inspired me to write this poem. so happy it resonated with you, for that was precisely the intention behind my words... to evoke how we still end up right back where we started, no matter what we do 🙂
