All I See Is Darkness

Tristan Robert Lange

Does not the light shine upon the earth?
Does not the light shine upon my brow?
No, there is no light upon the earth,
And the light upon my brow is black.
And all I see is darkness.

There is a vast emptiness lurking around me.
The cold, black feeling of death is entering my soul.
I grow more and more weary during my restless nights,
And all I see is darkness.

I begged my God to guide me to the light,
But there is no mercy for me.
There’s no more love to spare,
Neither is there any kindness to share.
I’m like a blind beggar crawling on my knees,
And all I see is darkness.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written when I was just 14 years old and is one of my earliest poems. A lot of time has passed and skills sharpened and honed, but I am still proud of this early work because it shows the early struggles and formation of this poet. Happy Throwback Thursday.

An existential hole where we may stumble and fall in youth and even later. It is dark and like being in a cave there is no sun and no guiding light. In its rawness it pulls at the heart.

Indeed. Thank you my friend.Your time and thoughts are always appreciated! 🖤🙏🦇🐦‍⬛🦇

Very relatable to me like walking around with a permanent blindfold on, taking the authors notes that is sad to feel so low at that age, but that was me as well. The explains to me alot about the authors writing's and the history that formed the author, nicely expressed and written

Thank you, dear poet and friend. Indeed, while I know our circumstances are different in ways, I have found much relation in reading your work and find a home in it. Sorry you endured what you did and felt that low as well. Glad we are both on here to tell about it and that our paths have crossed. Your read and your wonderful feedback are much appreciated! 🌹🖤🕯️🐦‍⬛

Yes, maybe if I had you around back when I wrote this one at 14 years old, it might have sunk in by now. Sigh! Glad to have you now! 💡🌹🕯️🖤

It's real matter though - darkness, depression, etc, apart from my 'Meanwhile....' daft comments!

              • Tristan Robert Lange

LOL! It really is and I know that, despite the daft, you get that. Much appreciated, Orchi!

No apologies needed, Rik. It happens to me too, and I have thought nothing of it. Just always happy to see your name show up! One only has so much bandwidth to go around. Rest well, my friend! 🖤

Aww. Thank you, Thomas! That poem will always have a special place in my heart. I can't say at this point, if it is the first poem I ever wrote, but it is the first of the earliest that survived. That is for sure. Thank you again, my friend. Your time and thoughts are much appreciated! 🖤🕯️
