You Choose You

You are going to upset a lot of people when you choose to take care of yourself,

And it has taken me a long time to realize that you can't take care of everyone else.

At the end of the day, there is only so much that you can do,

Before it feels like people are taking advantage of you.

When you finally put your foot down and say no,

Then their true feelings start to show.

They will make it seem like you have been the problem all along,

And they will not realize that what they did was wrong.

For making you feel bad the first time that you finally out you first,

Not realizing that they have made you feel like the absolute worst.

For finally realizing that you can't take it anymore,

And for finally realizing that you need to close that door.

There is that small part of you that will try and make you feel fill of guilt,

And deep down it will feel like the world is starting to tilt.

Because saying no to other is something that has always been hard for you,

But at the same time, when it happens you see everyone's true colors start to come through.

That the first time you tell someone no, they try to fill you with shame,

Making it seem like you are the one to blame.

No one realizes how much you have struggled all along,

That with every decision you make, you always feel as if you are doing something wrong.

That everyday you are falling apart because you are taking care of everyone else around you,

And no one of them know, or ask about what you are going through.

That you are pretty much doing everything you can to survive,

When at one point, you felt like you were actually about to thrive.

All of that came crashing down, when everyone else started to take over,

And you were left wishing on a four leaf clover.

That was the only way that you were able to get it all done,

Because you were taking care of ten other people, when you are only one.

Now, finally setting boundaries has left you feeling strange,

But you know that if you don't start now, than nothing is ever going to change.

In the end, it doesn't matter who you upset as long as you are taking care of you,

Because at the end of the day, there is only so much that you can do.
