The Weight of Redemption

Eira Solen

Oh, to be the youngest daughter...
Framed as the strongest — the one who can endure it all.
But strength? It’s not always what it seems.
“She can take care of herself,” her father said,
Not knowing that even the tiniest things could break her heart.
She lives in the shadows of elder siblings —
Expected to rise to the same heights or avoid their paths altogether.
But doesn’t she have dreams too?
Doesn’t she have a heart that longs to live life her way?
They say: Make your parents proud.
Redeem the shame they’ve endured.
Turn every wrong into a right.
And she tries... oh, she tries.
But every good thing she creates
Demands a piece of her soul in return —
Sacrifices of things she once held close,
Treasures she’ll never get back.
Is it fair?
To bear the weight of redemption
At the cost of her own joy?

A poetic question that each person has to answer for themselves. Nicely said.

A sense the feeling in this write, children cannot amend for their parent's mistakes or misgivings and it is unfair to expect them to do so, the pressure of expectation just becomes to much, nicely expressed and written
