Muscle Memories

Mutley Ravishes

Where does the belief come from

That amplified muscle tension

Will protect

From the perceived threats

Of the world outside

Can it block

The cuts of a sword or a knife?

Can it stop

The sound of a word?

Never heard

Of such a thing

    Hello,

This was a reflective read that gave much to ponder on. I enjoyed the underlying message as I felt it revealed a certain truth. Perhaps even a quest for hope!

    • Mutley Ravishes

Thank you. Yes, a quest for hope! So, first awareness of that tension, then consciously relaxing it.

Nothing is sharper or cuts deeper than a word, interesting and enjoyable read

      • Mutley Ravishes

For sure. And no wall of tension can stop it from penetrating!

          Exactly, your very welcome

Loved this imagery that although incongruent with reason fits reality. We all tense when we are about to be struck and flinch into a ball of tension with the utterance of an insult. So well said it is a fave

Don't we just! I've seen martial arts guys stay relaxed (not floppy, more like alert relaxation) when under heavy attack in sparring matches. And they didn't get run over. I sometimes used to spar with a cruiserweight boxer in a local park. The best punch I ever threw at him was a jab where I just (almost nonchalantly) walked the punch into him. He was stunned. And so was I! I'm now, at long last, trying to take this experience into daily life. I think it was Wilhelm Reich who came up with the term "armoring." An apt term!

It's why drunks seldom get hurt in car accidents

I didn't know that! Thanks for the info.

words can sometimes cut sharper than a knife...there is so much sorrow out there - brought out beautifully

                • Mutley Ravishes

Thank you! Yes, a lot of sorrow. Well, we've been given the keys out of the prison.

                    i agree.
                    have a beautiful week ahead
