You provided shelter
When the snow came
Sharing that bed
Keeping one another warm
We only had two blankets
Loving night to dawn.
It was so cold
We stayed until midday
Sharing cigarettes
Making each other smile
Brandy and beer
Holding you near.
The snow melted
Springtime came
No longer shelter
Just Aprils rain
The bottles empty
Cigarettes not shared
The bed with two blankets
That once cared.

It is the metaphor and careful imaging that gets the fave in this poem it sends a powerful message. So well done in rhyme and good meter. Love it
