After the bombing in the yard
Only the Dog remained. unowned
It sat for the third day in a row
Waited when her owners been shown
Not understanding anything completely
Where is the house, where are the kind people?
All around are only broken glass chips
All around is devastation eldritch
And again the roar and war
A Dog is running alone so far
A detachment of fighters is meeting her
They shouted amiably to her
To me, poor thin, to me poor.
And after the battle in the blindage
The Soldier fed the Dog hungry hard
It looked devotedly into the eyes:
“Are you my master now, I guess?”
The tired Soldier told it : “Take in mind:
While I live, you will be by my side!
You have passed the test of battle
So you deserved to be a corporal!

A poem of man's best friend that we are not always the best friend back. A lovely story
