ANGELS WEEP

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Angels weep
As soldiers keep
In line, in step
In rhythm
The long
And winding
Road to death
Caught in wars prism.

A light breeze
Ripples the flag
Patriotic till we die
Swallows overhead
Those tramping feet
Pass on by.

Line upon line
To feed the machine
That eats men
Partial, whole
Teenagers to veterans
So many lost souls.

A wonderful antiwar poem and who is not antiwar unless you are making money from it or benefiting politically from it. Well stated and a needed message that continues to go unheard.

There's a quote "for those who fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know." Many don't blink an eye at a soldier's life passing, but the cost of his life is another minute of freedom.
