Tormenting views

Tormenting views

We once looked across a field for fun,
we now look across with our raised guns.
We once shopped our way down a street,
now destroyed and death at our feet.

We never imagined these days of hell,
took back a town that months ago fell.
Peacefully we lived our lives carefree,
thermal goggles and drones help us now see.

It's hard looking back from our trench,
so many bodies the air filled with stench.
A rest, then another push forward soon,
waiting for the cover of the clouded moon.

The images burning in like a bad dream,
still hearing our friends dying screams.
Invaded now we're pushing them back,
tormenting views after each attack.
