Some Nights

Some Nights

Some nights turn into days,
the floor is flooded, shimmers from the tears waves.
Swimming in the deep the memories play,
lifeguards at the ready for moments to save.

I've whaled for you laid and sailed for you,
the nights they hide the sights from my view.
Sinking ships hiding dangers floating I miss,
feeling the feel of the sails winded kiss.
Shimmers of waved hope distantly I see,
some nights turn to days in front of me.

Cast away and set nautically a sail,
each memory with oars and a bailing pale.
Wading through the night to the coming day,
some nights I let my anchors out to play,
lighten the mood to the days rising view,
some nights when I'm tearing missing you.

You were favored over the other ones,
the ones that before sunk under suns.
The days that spring from the nights,
after wading through the floods and waves,
collecting all the memories lit for sight,
including the ones the lifeguard saved.

Some nights I miss that last sunken sail,
that night I wish I brought my bailing pale.
Together we still could float, sail and be
steering helmed a captain of the sea.

A poem of loss and missing the lost. Most people feel this at one time or another but to feel it constantly is a deep pain. A lonely poem
