A Lotus Flower in Muddy Waters

Mariel Ilagan

A lotus flower in muddy waters

Emerges bright from depths below

It does not carry the darkness on

But leans to light, with will to grow

The turbid water soiled by heavy rain

The storms outlived and all the pain

No sun to guide, no hand to lift

Yet upward blooms this beautiful gift

The weight of hardship, the pull of sorrow

Still unstained by all the world may throw

Like lotus born from murky streams

You too can rise, resilient, with your dreams

So when you feel you've sunk too far

Remember who and what you are

Away from the silt, arise from the gloom

May all your trials end in full bloom.
