Look.
Shh.
Look. Hey, look, over there.
Give me those binoculars.
That is one magnificent bird.
Honey, I think that’s a turkey.
It must be a male.
Tall, dark, strong.
I can’t quite tell,
But I think it is pecking—
yes, pecking—
at the ground.
Pecking pancreas-rousing pebbles
No doubt.
Wait,
Shh.
Honey, take these, tell me what do you see?
It’s turning it’s head?
Ooh, great now you can confirm...
What?
It’s ugly?
What do you mean it’s...
It’s looking back at you?
Looks raw,
Bald,
Testicular,
With a protruding pecker—
Oh, you mean the beak—
What?!?
It’s got what in its mouth?
It’s—oh, my dear Lord—
Got an eye ball.
Its blue iris
Dull with death,
Stoically staring.
Yes.
Ehem. Yes, I’ll take that back.
Sorry dear.
That turkey’s a buzzard
Basking in
This day’s death.

I now have a new image of vulture-type scavengers. (shivers) A very effective poemποΈππ»
π€£ Yeah, sorry about that! This came from seeing a "wake" of turkey buzzards having a feast on a dead deer. I have always found those birds to be magnificent and stately. We don't like them because of what they eat and yet they perform such a vital function ecologically. Really, their diet is beautiful, when one thinks of it that way. But, of course, I took it in a different direction than that. π€£π€·ββοΈ So, I doubt one will leave this poem feeling the beauty of the bird, but the bird will remain all the same! π Thank you so much, my friend, for your time and feedback! Always appreciated! π¦πππ―
No need to be sorry, mate. Once I read it with the Discovery Channel vibe and Attenborough lens itβs quite the poem!ποΈππ»
Indeed. THAT is the feel I was going for. Glad it delivered, my friend!

How frequently our initial perceptions are inaccurate and need revision. A great poem about jumping to conclusions. A most important point since first impressions are often hard to break.
Indeed, never judge a...ehem...bird by its feathers! πͺΆπ€£ Thank you so much, Soren, for your time and astute analysis. Much appreciated, my friend! π¦πππ―
Written in a charming and humorous conversational tone; I enjoyed the read!
Indeed! Glad you saw the humor in it my friend.
Your time and feedback are much appreciated! π¦πππ―
Good write T.
Thanks, Orchi! Much appreciated, my friend! π¦πππ―
That a turkey or vulture icon?! LOL.
A turkeyβ¦but since we have turkey vultures in the states, whom from a distance look like giant turkeys, figured it works. They really do need a vulture icon! Plenty of people I could imagine sending that too. Doh π€£
I see them everywhere around here. Great work.
Me too! They were eating a deer and this was birthed. Thank you so much, my friend! π¦πππ―
Hahaha, sorry I read this twice. There for a moment , my mind went where it shouldn't have...lol I love reading your words, you make them so enjoyable.
π€£ This makes my day. I know what you mean, I thought about it twice while writing it. The double entendre was irresistable. Glad you enjoyed and wordplay came across! Thank you much, teardrop. Much appreciated, my friend! π¦πππ―
