Time's Canvass

Dan Williams

Invited inside aging’s overcoat,

time gives you a professional pat down,

to assure weapons are not to be found,

as blue abandons your sky,

rocking eternity’s imperishable boat.

That idiot destiny, awaiting your reply

from before electricity was invented,

behavior once allowed now is prevented,

the first and the last are comingled

without the present never even knowing why.

time nonjudgmental of merit, uncaring of iniquity,

you are not the only one to be confused by this,

taking most of forever to recover from this,

conscience denies as only consciousness can;

what is or what was is what always will be.

No worrying will temper cold reality's, hymn.

It is alright if you still feel confused by this.

You are a sailor asleep while unused to this,

restlessly dreaming as the sail comes unfurled,

till the flapping of time’s canvas awakens him

Musings on the human condition are at times like handling a hot iron. Very nicely written.
