Penance for Imaginary

rebellion_in_sanity

And then came the tears
Like a tropical tempest
With torrential rain

Seminal words pouring out
She straddling the moral high ground
Her crimson lips moved
A torrent of derision pierced your skin
With venom of her eternal damnation
She spoke of trust she had lost in you
Dragged you down a path
You knew existed,
But never thought you would have to see

A numbing unreality
You were there, but not there
A ghost in your own skin
Watching dispassionately
Sitting on the window sill

An empty carriage
Rattling of the train
Strange comforting rhythm
Eyes closed, hugging yourself

Something took you back
To those elusive days -
Seemed like they happened only yesterday
A yesterday which you couldn't recall
Ever to have come in your way

Those days -
When mother held you in her arms
Those days -
When she conveyed her trust in you
Through her silence
It was the land of your joy
Beyond the realm of pain

How you wished you could touch them!
Fragments of memories, seemed real
But never seen
Did they lull you into believing
One could have trust in you?
Was that belief so very wrong
The falsehood she had to remind you?

Now you think over and over:
"O my mother, O my Lord
Should I go on believing in me?
Should I do penance
For being accused of something
Which I never did?"

Misunderstanding and blame powerful tools to wrack havoc in any relationship and drive a wedge of mistrust, not just by the viewer but into the very heart of the innocent. Lovely

I have felt this. That last stanza, something I have literally wrestled with inside. Do I just take the blame? Powerful write, my friend. A fave. 🌹👏
