in the dark

Gloria Denise

in the dark

in the quiet

in the places where the truth could never find

is a prison where mumbles plague the mind

the cries of the inner child is confined

begging for the future self to break the binds

here is where confidence is maligned

here is where the elder  feels left behind

here is where the beginning meets a decline

pride strangles unwarranted screams

soft whispers taunt; don’t you wish this was a dream

pretty words beg an audience to be seen

oh you’re too vocal with your pain, now i’ll make you a meme.

so when you attempt a curtain call, the headlines will say its all a scheme

such a tragedy

such a sorrow

how the dark is a test that is felt by many

and passed by the few

but its so taboo to talk about the one thing

we all go through

cause we all

go

through

and maybe if we shine a light on the dark

we would know how it feels to thrive in what’s true

to convict every intrusive thought

because there’s a joy to pursue

because in life, there are some choices you can’t undo.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about how we all deal with things but we never talk about it. If we do, the world trivializes a cry for help until it\\\'s to late. I hope this lets others know who are going through it that we all go through it. We are here to help one another.
