You couldn't

Maplespal

You couldn't

You wouldn't believe the things I've seen,
the places alone that I've gone to and been.
The voices so many still I hear their tunes.
The streets of Kabul driving through ruins.

You wouldn't have gone to where I've gone,
across the ocean to be a government pawn.
The rifle and pistol always handed.
The Task Force gathered and banded.

You wouldn't volunteer to take another's seat,
armed, fully geared in the hottest of heats.
The notions of self left across the sea.
Hoping to get back to where thy self be.

You wouldn't be able to want it like I do,
sacrifice those moments to keep freedom true.
To think of defending another's values worth.
To except and go fighting on another's turf.

You wouldn't dedicate your life to these thoughts,
and be willing to go somewhere you could be shot.
Be one of the ones that every day put on the boots.
Be one of the ones that believes in military roots.

You couldn't understand our purposeful dedication,
willingness to stand our ground and face anil aition.
A soldier, you couldn't bring yourself to be.
A soldier, dedicated to keeping others free.
