The Gulf Between US
The Gulf between us ever widens
Never left tranquil defying
It’s natural guise
With our misuse and misguidance
We never see or recognize
One might as well claim the sky’s
Light day into night as rename the sea
The sea in any season
numbers not nor names it’s ecology
The Gulf of Mexico appropriated
by human fame
Truly cannot be renamed
human greed in dominion claimed
Is fraudulent ownership shamed
Where Cuba Mexico and America meet
The North American Sea
Borderless,it’s true name is unity
unspoken in its diverse community
“Anahuac”. the land between the waters”
Mayans called it Nahá, Great Water
Is the mutual gift we greet
New names given and explained
Through Invasions like flags planted
marking territory gained
For a time was the Gulf of New Spain
Columbus called it the Chinese sea
But in reality it is Natures sea
In all of its vast and beautiful bio-diversity
Where the vastness of ocean greets the land
Cannot be owned or ceded from human hand
All that is prepared in Nature's care
is offered and shared there
Harmony within the bounty
And flourishing life within her sea
Must mean more to her in trust
then a name game
For what human gain has defamed
Every microscopic bit of oceanic life
From the gulls that swim cry and fly
And manatee whale and turtle above
surfacing too in joy seeking
Warmer waters and the air of blue sky
Sharks and all fish that feed below
in self sacrificial love
Neither shipping lanes nor fishing lines-
ships with oil spills seeping
into feathers, ocean bed and krill
Or opportunistic vessels wakes
That plough though fins and gills
Can overtake or define nature’s plan
no matter where we stand
by label, title, or brand
The only language needed
is the one of sea, sky and sand

This a wonderful write around what at the moment is a relevant topic, well worded making it's valid points very clear, enjoyed the read
The audacity of humans to think that we own parts of land and sea is ridiculous and changes with each ruling generation. Well written and point well expressed in poetic form
