e·man·ci·pa·tion
1.) the fact or process of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions; liberation.
2.) the freeing of someone from slavery.
As in: The excitement of the idea of freedom being almost more exciting than itself.
As in: Getting to stay home and know I'll never experience hands of rage touch my skin for thinks I didn't cause.
As in: Getting to be a normal teenager and experience normal life.
As in: Being able to love him freely without fear of being hurt for loving.
As in: Being free from abuse, and rape, and drugs and hurt....but at what cost
As in: never coming in contact with my mother or younger sisters because to them I was the wrong one.
As in: future generations being told lies and never knowing the truth...
in the end is it really freedom if my soul dwells on what will happen...?
Am I truly free from this spiritual tie I have to honor "thy mother"?
Emancipated but at the cost of guilt.
I know if I live and love for the rest of my life in guilt from what I can't control I never truly will be free.
And I've come to realize that my actions only matter in the present, I can't change the past.
Emancipated- but to me it has a different definition.
Free of myself.
Free of guilt.
Free of pain.
Free of my mother.
Free of her abuse.
Free of her pain. Her guilt. Her pain- that she pushed onto my shoulders so hers wouldn't have to carry it.
Free.

Free to make our own mistakes, free to set our own course, free to suffer our own pain. A good post that shows growing perspective on what freedom is and what responsibility goes with it. A lovely write
