LONE CANDLE

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

A lone candle burns
Slave to the breeze
Bobbing and turning
Heart on its sleeve
The dark night portrays
Shadows to cast
On lonely walls secrets
Engrained in the past.

A room to attention
Invisible soldiers in line
A ceiling thats flaked
Splattered with wine
Curtainless window
Reflection at ease
With shadows that dance
A phrase on its knees.

In terror or wonder
Nightmare or dream
Deep in the flame
Words inbetween.
Lips that do mutter
Tangled within
The deepest of reaches
Memories begin.

This poem has a most haunting quality to it and feels a bit dark and ominous in nature. Very nicely written

Something about candles and their singular light amid a dark world. Beautiful! 🕯️🕊️🙏🏻
