My Story

The Indignant Poetess

Everyone swears they feel me bleeding inside out,
and they all claim the moral high ground when they hear my story,
especially when I tell them what I've done with my broken heart.

  • Comment from author about the poem: People are quick to judge what others have gone through, making statements such as "if I were them I would/wouldn't..." "that couldn't be me" "I wouldn't allow that" as if they know exactly what it's like to be in that same position. The people who know my story have tried to take my autonomy away from me by assuming they know best about what I should and shouldn't do. The way in which people make other people's pain about themselves says a lot about the narcissistic society we live in.

There is no one cure for all, each person is different and deals with things in a different way, we all to often give advice that is not helpful or wanted, nicely expressed and written

The message in this hits home and being said in so few words that are so nicely woven gives it a fave
