Radiant

Nathan Lafata

I pray that the waves of time
Cleanse the memory of me for you
Wash out what I wrote in the sand
For all that I had put you through

I pray you will forgive me
But I don’t expect you to
I just hope you’ve healed from all the pain
And that your path is full and true

If I’m broken enough
Will the light seep through?
If I swear on an oath and repent
Will that do?

Can I repay the damage
I caused by my hand?
Can I learn from my failure
And start to make a stand?

I fell on an oasis
I didn’t know that I was parched and lost
I wandered through the desert unaware
Before our paths first crossed

I felt the thirst so badly
But I failed to count the cost
Of waiting until nightfall
While my hopes succumbed to frost

If I’m broken enough
Will the light seep through?
What if I swear on an oath
And promise to stay true?

Can I heal all the damage
I’ve caused by my own hand?
Can I learn from my failure
And heed my soul’s demand?

I will grow beyond this
And strive to be a better man
before my destination
I’ll do everything I can
To right my wrongs and
Play my part
I know there’s fire in my heart
And I will use it
to burn down every wall
Let’s all stand firm
And burn down every wall
