name

NAZIA ZAHRA

a name carried with such burden,
take it off and who am I,
guarded by confidence,
hidden deep in cages,
laid my desire to be accepted,
 without any excuses or hindrance.

being myself was a word of shame,
trophies and degrees my fame,
take it off and I'm a shame.

for long I've been a player of this game,

could I ever be not lame,
for me to be me and be enough,
carried such importance,
my notorious little name.

  • Comment from author about the poem: message: Sometimes somethings simple as a name can bound and bruden a person so much to the point that their own character is just that name ,contrary to which if a name of person is despised so much to the point of ignoring their character that name can be just the end of that person rather than just a name with a story . thoughts behind poem: my name despised by my mother was just given because of a cherished deceased one of my father and was the only source of acceptance to my family.

A name, a label and an identifier. It signals who we are to all around us. A good write with deeper meaning about labels in general. Nicely done

If you could change your name what would it be?

“The name Zahra, of Arabic origin, means "flower," "blossom," "splendor," "beauty," "brightness," or "radiance". It's a popular name, particularly in the Arab world, and is also associated with Fatimah al-Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. The name's popularity is further attributed to its association with the Persian empire's influence on the Indian subcontinent.”
